I am starting this petition to advocate for the recognition of parental alienation as a form of emotional abuse towards children and targeted parents. As a victim of this devastating phenomenon, I have personally experienced the heart-wrenching effects it has on both myself and my child.
My Ex-husband and his wife have intentionally alienated my son from me, using manipulative tactics that have resulted in severe emotional distress for both me and my child. This deliberate act of parental alienation has not only shattered our bond but also caused long-lasting psychological harm to my innocent child.
Parental alienation occurs when one parent engages in behaviors that systematically undermine the relationship between their child and the other parent. These actions can include constant negative comments about the targeted parent, limiting contact or visitation rights, spreading false accusations or lies, and manipulating the child’s emotions through guilt or fear tactics, among others.
Research shows that parental alienation can have serious consequences on children’s mental health and overall well-being. According to studies conducted by renowned psychologists such as Dr. Amy J.L Baker and Dr. Richard A. Warshak, children who experience parental alienation often suffer from depression, anxiety disorders, low self-esteem, academic difficulties, and substance abuse issues later in life.
Furthermore, recognizing parental alienation as emotional abuse is crucial for protecting targeted parents’ rights to maintain healthy relationships with their children. By acknowledging this form of abuse within legal frameworks and family court systems worldwide, we can ensure better protection for victims while promoting healthier co-parenting dynamics.
In an article published by Psychiatric Times in 2022, Dr. Blotcky and Dr. Bernet point out that “Based on current research, over 22 million adults have been targets of parental alienation in the United States. An estimated 10 million adults have experienced what they perceive to be severe alienation from their children. Even so, the clinical problem of parental alienation has been underreported and underappreciated in the public at large. It is a silent epidemic that must be acknowledged.”
It is essential that we take action now! By signing this petition, you are expressing your support for recognizing parental alienation as child abuse and emotional abuse towards targeted parents:
1) We urge lawmakers to enact legislation that explicitly recognizes parental alienation as a legal offense against children and targeted parents.
2) We call upon family court systems to prioritize the well-being of children by implementing measures to identify and address cases of parental alienation.
3) We encourage mental health professionals, educators, and legal practitioners to receive training on recognizing the signs of parental alienation and providing appropriate support for affected families.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless children and targeted parents who suffer silently due to parental alienation. Let us stand united against this heinous form of child abuse and ensure that every child has the right to maintain a loving relationship with both parents.
Sign this petition today and help bring awareness to the urgent need for recognizing parental alienation as child abuse and emotional abuse towards targeted parents. Together, let’s protect our children’s well-being and promote healthy co-parenting relationships.
